Sorry this one is specific... Alstroth, you say my attitude is unjustified and yet the best you have to offer is a visit to your apartment. Sad. Maybe if you offered something interesting women would respond...i have four walls here that seem more charming than you.

Manila is the pits as a destination. If you could go either directly to Cebu or land in Manila and go there right away, that would be a good place to start. It's like the Silicon Valley of the Philippines. From there you can go to some of the other really fantastic beaches and areas of the country. The problem of safety is relative. It's safe if you're careful and not obvious and showoffy. If you go places at night by yourself, carry loads of fancy gadgets and money around, you're bound to be ripped off. If you go further south into the Muslim-controlled areas, you may regret it. You can find reasonably-priced hotels in Cebu, but also Pensions (rooms in more-or-less private homes) are the best budget bet as they're clean, licensed, quiet, and inexpensive. List of them at Cebu airport. It also helps that Philippines is an English-speaking country, so you're less alienated than other places.
