My husband and I bought a house that had sat for a couple of years and rats moved in. I bought some poison to kill them and now they have died in my house and it is nasty. What can I do? I can't find the rats because they are somewhere in the walls. What can I get to cover up the smell until it goes away or get rid of the smell completely? Pleas help me I can't stand the smell.

I found the Rat and the smell is gone. I asked my husband to look under the washer and dryer and he said he did or would. But I got sick of it and I was going to pull the washer out and see if I could figure out where it was in the wall and there it was under the washer, NASTY!!!!! But its gone and so is the smell. I bought some odoban and some air fresher after I found the rat and I got back from the store and i didn't even need the air fresher anymore.

Hi! My hubby used to be in apartment maintenance, and now he's a heating and air guy. In both lines of work, he's had to get 'dead' smells out of buildings. He has a machine called a tritomic (sp?). Since he's got one of these in the heating and air business, I'd guess that you could call up most any H & A place and they could bring the tritomic out to your house. You have to leave the room being treated and get all pets/fish out as well, because the tritomic removes the oxygen from the room. It uses ozone to kill smells, and, according to my hubby, will get any smell out of a room. Hope this helps. Good luck!! :)

Shampoo the phuck out of the carpet- I mean w/ a vengeance!
If you don't have a shampooer, don't sweat it. You can rent one for a few buxx at the supermarket. (Use bleach in the water)

Also, clean the walls and all surfaces w/ bleach water. use hospital gloves, bleach is harsh on the skin, and that's why it works. Doing this will not only clean your house, but it will disinfect it. The reason why it still smells like that is because there are still particles of them in it.

*** Don't mask the smell w/ sprays. This will only make it worse.

It's a lot of work, but it'll be worth it!

This problem will remedy itself. once you place poison out to kill mice, or rats, they are going to croak throughout. They pass on your basement, attic, between partitions, and everywhere else. get rid of those you detect, something will finally supply up stinking. they are able to easily decompose so long. interior the recommend time, positioned on a nostril clip. LOL. it quite is a sturdy reason to apply the mouse traps, they sell. The ineffective can constantly be bumped off.

try contacting a company that restores houses after disasters like fire/smoke damage, crime scenes the involve blood and stuff like that. they would be able to recommend a product. honestly though, you gonna have that smell until all those rats decompose completely. i personally would keep the windows open and run fans 24/7. good luck!

You could do worse than spraying the area with white vinegar it will not stain your carpets, curtains, furnishings etc... and is cost effective and NO chemicals for you both to breathe in. Good luck.
