I have a sleeveless blouse with 1" wide shoulder straps that are too long and always slip off. How can I alter the garment to make them shorter?

If you have a sewing machine you can measure find the comfortable length and fold and pin in the back where the strap is sewed to the body of the blouse and sew across as close to the blouse as possible. then tack the excess fabric on the inside of the blouse. Press wit a steam iron to flatten. If you are going to do this hand sewing, try this measure the excess strap length and pin to the front as close to the body of the blouse as possible.
Hand sew into place. Purchase some decorative buttons, if it is a dressy type blouse you could try rhinestones, or any other style of buttons that you like. Sew the button on the excess loop that you have previously sewn on the front and and it will look like there is a button hole strap. This is difficult if you are not a regular sewer, because the right way would be to tailor the problem. I hope this helped....

The easiest quick fix is to put on the blouse-- have a friend safety pin the amount needed to reduce the length-- take it off and fold that amount under at the back of the garment-- got that? Not a perfect answer-- but the "right way" is to detach the strap from where it's sewn in-- and shorten. you'll still need a measurement.
good luck
