I had one. It was an induced labor, and the pitocin causes fetal distress, which triggers the need for the c-section. DON'T LET THEM INDUCE YOU!!
About 1 in 3 deliveries in the US is now a c-section, and no ob's will let you do a VBAC any more due to liability issues, so if you want to do a VBAC, you have to do a home birth or get a midwife. :(

I've never had one but probably will have to have one when I have children. My mother had to have them with both my brother and I because of the way she is built (pelvis is too small) and I am built the same way. The reasons I know for women having them are for the reason above, a baby's large birth weight, the baby failing to make progress down the birth canal (possibly for the preceding reason), the baby being breech, the baby being in distress (heart rate being too low or too high) and needing to be delivered quickly, multiple births (twins or more), and the mother having an infection that would pass to the baby if delivered vaginally. I think an increasing number of women opt for c-sections due to personal choice and not wanting to go through labor due to the fear of pain (or for other reasons) or wanting to control when they have the baby (they want the baby to be born on a certain day or want their dr. to deliver the baby vs. another dr. in the same practice because their doctor might not be on-call when they go into labor).

I had a c-section when I had my twins 14 years ago. I am now pregnant again and due on feb 5 and I will probably have another. I am only 4'10" and my body structure is small. My doctor said that if I try to have anything bigger then a 6 lb baby it could cause damage to my body because of it's size. I didn't even have any labor last time! The doctor said there was no sense putting me through the pain....crazy, huh?

my second was because i started to hemorrhaging...
yes there do seem to be a lot more c-section a lot are necessary but then there are the ones that are elective... it use to be c-sections were only done when there was a medical emergency..insurance wouldn't pay for an elective c-section now it does...

some woman opt for to bypass for a c-section yet for the most section that is through different medical causes certain if the toddler is to particular is one among them or if there are themes in the course of demanding artwork , also if the cord is round babys neck and such issues as that . I actually have had 2 c-sections myself the first time the cord changed into round my sons neck and the 2d time the final practitioner reported that it will be safer to bypass ahead and plan a c-section .

it could be because the baby is pre-mature or if the baby
is upside down,if the buttox is facing the vaginal opening.
the reason for so many women having c-sections is either because they can't carry full round pregnancy or like i said the baby is facing the wrong way,and it can also be something wrong with the mother or the baby.
this all is the reason a c-section is performed.

My second son was an emergency c-section baby. I called my OB because the baby had barely moved all day. When I got to the hospital, they did a NST and an ultrasound and found that when I was having Braxton Hicks contractions, it was putting him under distress and his heart rate was plummeting. He was 2 weeks early.

I did. I developed preeclampsia in the last 2 weeks of pregnancy and had to be induced. Cervix hadn't started softening yet and no dilation, so the whole process had to be started from scratch. Despite many hours of labor, attempted delivery w/forceps and vacuum, I had to have an emergency c-section.
No preeclampsia in 2nd pregnancy & delivery happened naturally (no inducing). Delivery was vaginal & normal.
So I believe the c-section happened because of the inducing, my body wasn't allowed to ready itself for delivery in a normal way. Just my opinion.
