My old computer was a Dell Dimension 4100 desktop with Windows ME. New computer is Athlon AMD X2 4600 dual-core running Windows XP 64-bit edition. I can run dvd's burned on old computer using Nero and some cd's but not others (when I put it into either dvd drive on new computer it says corrupted data or unreadable, but when I put it in old computer it can read them).

How can I transfer the data from these "unreadable" cd's to the new computer without having to transfer them all back to the old computer and re-burn onto new dvd's or cd's using Nero? (When I burned the cd's I closed the sessions - not multi-session dics - they are CD-R's).

its sometimes with the burner itself. you might want to try updating the firmware on the drive and windows update as well as any other cd/dvd related software you have. but usually the update for the drive should be enough

put the burner from the old computer into the new one. some burners have this problem, but i've found the burner that created the discs can always read them. its not a factor of the processor/operating system. remember though that if the cd's contain programs, the program itself may not be compatible with winxp64. alot of programs have to be rewritten to work in a 64 bit environment.

I have the exact processor as you. Mine is a socket AM2 which is a bit different. Its caused by the software you used to burn the
CD-R on your old computer. The software should be the same to ensure compatibility.
