the birth of a child, the love of a mother, the sacrifice of a father. the willingness of a brother or sister.
the innocence and forgiveness of a child.
i would invite you to experience a family thanksgiving, a night out with good friends. to see and aspire to the imagination of a 7 year old. to feel the boldness and audacity of a teenager. to see and admire tha beauty of a young woman.
i would take you to see the death of a loved one... the caring of a stranger and the will to survive.
i would let you experience with a musical instrument and take you to a concert to feel the essence of awe when you the words and music are in sync.
i would take you to see the creation of an art in every form, the expression of an artist towards his view of the world.
i would open to you and let you see my inner thoughts and feelings ... to let you see through my eyes.. and feel through my body. i would show you my trust in you

I don't know how unique this is, given that I've been in contact with less than ten alien civilisations, but I would say that as a species, we have a remarkable ability to be wholly different individuals and yet still have a collective bond. It is as if we are cells in a much larger organism where we each have a specific function but are a part of the greater whole. We are interconnected in a way that very few of us understand, and yet a single individual can be the embodiment of great beauty.
Of course, some of us are like cancerous cells that threaten the rest of humankind. And yet, even with the temptations to turn our backs on our fellow man, most of us avoid those urges and work for the betterment of all, with some contributing their normal portion to others giving their all.
I would say to our hypothetical question-bearer that humankind has the potential of being bright stars in the universe, shine forth the highest potential of beauty and joy. All we need do is survive and realise this noble quality about us.

I would play some classical music, show them the most beautiful art, let them listen to some opera singers, introduce them to Stephen Hawkings, let them see a sunset over the ocean, walk in the rain, gently kiss them and give them a hug. Show them a baby being born and let them hold the baby after. Let them hold the hand of a beautiful old woman who is dying and has lived a full and happy life and is at peace. Walk under the stars and ask them if they think of God when they look at them. Walk through the mountains to a beautiful lake and read them poetry. Show them the Grand Canyon and the pyramids of Egypt. Let them smell a rose and a look at a peony. Let them see all the beautiful life we have, zebras, foxes, polar bears and puppies. Take them to a huge cathedral and to a small house with a thatched roof and mud floor. Tell them that the human spirit soars above all the pain in the world to find beauty in everyday life and its struggles. In a babies giggle,in an old mans smile, in a grandmas hug, and a mothers love for her child.

I would show you 5 of the greatest art museums on Earth and three concerts given by the world's best musicians, one classical, one rock and one classic jazz. Then I would take you to the scene of a catastrophic disaster, like a major earthquake, tsunami or great famine and show you scenes of how people selflessly worked themselves to the bone without complaint to help other people who were mostly strangers.

A newborn baby being held by his mother. A child and his dog playing in a lush, green meadow. A picnic, a Little League baseball game. My grandfather teaching me to fish at our river house in 1970. Ladies passing food out to the elderly. My mom picking vegetables from our garden. My wife's eyes when she tells me she loves me. My little girl laughing as she blows bubbles in the breeze. I'd show them the simple things are the best things about man.

There is no way of knowing what is unique to humans, if you in fact assume that other intelligent species exist in the universe. If I wanted to "show off" to some ET ambassador, I would have the best instrumentalists and orchestras play our best music, show him/her/it our best art and architecture, our love for our children.

I would say it is our sense of wonder that never fades, from seeing a puppy for the first time to the birth of a child to watching someone doing something for the first time. The child-like sense of wonder is a beautiful human only experience.

Forgiveness and understanding. However, I don't know that it is unique to humans only. My dog seems very forgiving. And scenes? From what? Movies? I guess I don't understand the question very well.

I would say you should go to Oahu and watch the sun set on the eastern shore.. It's gorgeous.
And I would say the best quality we have is that we can learn from our mistakes. Hopefully not to make the same ones again.
