Reality is a weird word. Your reality is what you make it to be. You can alter your reality and deny another persons reality. Society is made up of people that have formed a common reality and generally accept the same basic ideas of how to define reality.
I have not personally experienced anything to make me question the authenticity of the accepted reality but I believe others have. Some claim alien abductions or ghosts...whatever they call it, it is now a part of their reality, just not society's or mine as of yet.
Good Luck to you in constructing yours.

This isn't very scientific, and I know that's what catagory this question is in, but after I read the book 'Coma' by Alex Garland, which is about a man who falls into a coma and keeps thinking he's awoken even though he hasn't, I spent a few days walking around wondering if I was really awake.

Read Plato's parable about "The Cave". See http://www.vrc.iastate.edu/why.html

Then compare it to DeCartes' contention that the only thing I can be absolutely positive of is that I exist as a thinking thing. Everything else could (in theory) be an illusion. See http://www.ship.edu/~cgboeree/descartesmeditations.html
