Her grandfather got her an interview at Yale when they were there for a football game or something like that and Rory didn't know about it. Then it was a thing with Emily, Richard and Lorelai but soon Rory decided to attend Yale instead of Harvard.

because her grandfather wanted her to go to yale and he kinda tricked her in to going and showed her yale and got her a interview and it was like she couldn't say no

her grandparents are manipulative...she says it in one of the eppisodes on either season 4 or 5...have them on dvd so i see it continuously
