A person will walk all over to find the remote but will not get up to change the channel

For the same reason while someone is vacuuming the floor, and something won't get sucked up, you pick it up look at it, then throw it back down to MAKE the vacuum suck it up.

because, if you have a stupid cable box with an up and down button you could have to stand there for 100 chanels, vs. just clicking two buttons.
