How Smart Is Your Right Foot? 1. While sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles with it. 2. Now, while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction. Why this happens. I want to know the reason.

I think the answer is brain's left hemisphere's co-ordination of the right side of the body. The right palm and the right leg will move or rotate in the same direction

Hah, that was fun. I just trained my foot to make clockwise circles while my hand does counterclockwise. Anyhow, to answer your question, try the ol' pat your tummy, rub your head. Or, if you really want a challenge, put together in order your thumb and each finger on both hands. Easy if its the same pattern. Now, do it in reverse on one hand, and forward on the other. Then, try alternating patterns to really mess with your head (hint, go very slow to start). Our brain likes to send out one stream of information at a time. And usually the simpler the better. So, in getting limbs to do repetitive tasks, it is easy to double up the information. And, between each limb and your brain is a nerve center that takes care of some of that repeated information. Getting that to process multiple streams is what you are experiencing. For instance, try doing the circles with your leg again, and type something. I bet you will revert to simpler forward and back motion. Anyhow, this is a bit of a simplification, but close to what happens. Fun question.

Mine dosent. It happens when you become an office-like person and your nerves "degrade" not litterally but in a sense. I practice martial arts alot and in Gonfu, we have alot of moves where your arm/fist rotate in different directions than your foot. This is trained. You can test it out yourself by drawing a 6 in the air first and start rotating your foot clockwise. With a little practice, these movements become natural and u can do it without problem.
