Can you tell me the story about that clown-murder? Who was he? Why did he do it? I just don't have the nerve to watch the movie. Thanks.

Well first I would say I hated clowns BEFORE I saw the movie and it makes me hate them more after. If you are a Stephen king fan you know he is all about supernatural/psychological things that are out in the world that we ignore or aren't aware of. The clown uses his victims one by one against themselves. I have to say if you are really afraid to watch this movie I would suggest watching it with a friend but a good one. I would also suggest it in the day. It is a long movie and you may be confused but as a Stephen king fan I say its worth it.
p.s if you could watch nightmare on elm street you can watch stephen kings IT.

That would be Stephen King... The clown was actually not a clown at all, just a facade. The murderer was actually a giant spider-like creature that lived in the old sewers and water treatment plant. The creature had a way, which was just an illusion, to make it's victims see and hear the clown to instill fear and lure the potential victim into the sewers. Where it then would scare the "living daylights" out of the victim which made it's prey that much sweeter.
Don't be a wuse, the movie wasn't that scary.

I´ve read the book and seen the movie so many times. The film is actually a **** TV movie but me and my friends LOVE it. There is no solid explaination to the clown murders. It is just more of a supernatural thing. The clown is not a physical person. There has just always been a dark presence in the small town of Derry and every thirty years, this dark force/being ("it") awakes and feeds on local children. The clown, pennywise or "Bob Grey" is just one of the forms it takes to lure children.
The book is one of the best books I have ever read! It´s very long and tends to be complicated due to the large amount of characters, but it is definitely worth the read. I actually recommend watching the TV movie first so you are familiar with the characters. So much had to be left out of the book (like various subplots) that it´s still enjoyable to read after.

Warning: Only read on if you are very sure you want to be spoiled.

The "clown" is actually a spider with some sort of telepathic ability that makes kids see a "friendly clown" (before it kills them!). Every 25 years, it comes out of hibernation to feed and stock up on food (kids). Because of It's telepathic ability (and the fact that it only attacks children), adults never know about it and the kids that are still alive when it goes back into hibernation forget about it as well.

The movie is VERY freaky! Tim Curry did a very scary clown character. Almost made me afraid of clowns after seeing It! The book is better than the movie. I would read the book first, then maybe see the movie after that if you still wanted to see the movie.

Dear Flying, I too did not have the nerve to watch that movie, UNTIL my 26 year old daughter told me that Tim Curry is the evil clown Pennywise (AKA IT). Okay so then I watched it. It's still the scariest freaking movie I've ever seen!!!
Here's what happens, Pennywise was always an evil clown, he abducted children and took them to the sewers. He was an evil spider inside a clowns body, possibly an alien, anyway the kids all band together and face their fears. They throw rocks at IT; one kid throws his inhaler at IT; one screams at IT etc. In the end that is what gets rid of Pennywise....or so we might think. King hasn't come out with a sequel, nor has Hollywood, so maybe we are rid of Pennywise. It's a very scary movie. Especially if you hate clowns anyway......nana

If I tell you, then it will ruin the movie when you decide to watch it. Its more suspense then it is gory and its more story than anything. I know that doesn't make alot of sense but the clown aspect is overrated in the commercials, he's not actually around that much.

it's rather hard to explain, King writes complex plots generally, you could probably look it up on Wikipedia.org and get a decent description of it. If you don't want to watch the movie just read the book, it's extremlyu good but you don't have to actually SEE all the gore stuff. It's really good though, I've both read the book and watched the movie

Can we say "Cop-out"? Its just like everything else by Stephen King. Everything always turns out to be an Alien or the Devil. In this case, the Clown was an Alien. Hot Damn.

Don't watch it. Go read the book. The book is 100 times better. And just one little spoiler: IT isn't truly a clown.

No its about a clown who is actaully a monster. Its not a person. He lives around the sewer and in dark places. It's a pretty good film but it goes a little wacky at times.
