Since I have done both (I was in Germany from June 10th until June 19th), I would definitely say I would rather be there live. Nothing beats the atmosphere before, during, and after a live World Cup game.
Watching on TV really sucks. HDTV helps, but I cannot stand the commentators. Sometimes I have to use my mute button.

Both, I can be at home and watch a cup the shape of the earth live. lol....just kidding...I'd rather watch it live.

screw who ever would stay home and not watch the cup wats better then watching it
