ok, my friends is white, and i am black, and I really dont want to go to a black college because I think that they stand standards really low for their students, and since I have not been in an entirely black school for a while, I hate that idea. Am I being racist?

I think an education at a college is really what you make of it. I went to an historic black college and had a great learning experience. I never felt that the standards were set low. I believe I got a better education at a HBCU than the education I would have gained at a regular university. During high school I felt I had to prove I was as smart as the white kids. While at college, I could just be me. I don't think you are racist for not wanting to go to a black college, everyone has their own preferences.

The fact that you mentioned that your friends are white speaks volumes. You don't want to be associated as black. Also, you speak derisively of the low standards for their students. Yes, you are being a little racist. Alot of historically all-black colleges are well known for their high levels of achievements. If you want to attend a college that has a mixture, then do so. May I suggest that you watch the Spike Lee movie "School Daze"? I thought it was an excellent comment on the way blacks divided themselves even further.Go to the college that you want.

If you were choosing the school based on the race of the teachers or student population... yes, but you think the school is subpar based on education alone. If the black university had better standards, and you chose not to go there.. that would be pretty racist.

No, I don't think so. If your just looking at statistics, and the success rates of students after college you're fine. However, if you are automatically eliminating schools because of race you probably are being racist. If you think you're being racist just cover up the race percentage column when you're looking at a school.

Let's be honest. It's not the school; it's the student. A named university regardless of the makeup of its students may open a door for a first job, but after that employers are looking at your experience and YOU -- not where you graduated from college!!

No. Race should not even be considered. Your continued education, bettering yourself is paramount.

Remember, people don't see your race when they see your SAT scores.
