I want to buy something 2-3 years old. Good mileage and not overly expensive. Looking for something that sits higher than most compact cars. Any ideas?

If you want something higher than most, I would look at the Fiat Idea 1.3JTD Multijet, Ford Fusion 1.4TDCi, Mazda2 1.4TD, Renault Modus 1.5dCi, Opel Meriva 1.3 or 1.7 DTi.

You might be interested in the more van-like Renault Kangoo, Citroën Berlingo, Peugeot Partner, Fiat Doblo, but they are acquired tastes.

For something slightly larger, the Citroën Xsara Picasso is likely to be the best value, although the Renault Scénic, Ford Focus C-Max are both worth a look.

Depends on how much you want to spend, A golf GT TDI would be a safe bet. Make sure it's got the recaro seats, traction control and 6 speed gear box, 15k should get u a very nice 03. Extras mean everything with a golf.

If i had 10k to spend on a diesel i'd go look at this, high milage but a lot of car for the money...

The Jeep Liberty (Cherokee as known in Europe) is available in Diesel. I have a 2005 and am averaging over 27 MPG here in the States.

Chieftain Tank. Good solid bodywork, nice high driving position, poor rear and side view, high MPG but reassuring during riots.
