When you fall short, you find out where your limitations are, and the work is done. But, the real question is, what are your expectations? Are they realistic? Are they grounded in the reality of who you are, what you are capable of and what can be accomplished given a certain amount of time, talent and resources? If your expectations are way too high, you will find out. It is then that you will decide where to go with your findings.

Also, are they YOUR expectations? Or your parents? Or someone else's? Sometimes we work very hard for something, only to find out that we have been trying to please our mates, parents, boss, friend, etc. and we feel like a failure in their eyes.

As the saying goes "you can't please everyone so you've got to please yourself." If you decide to go the other route, buy lots of aspirin.

ya know what, it never comes down to only one of those. there are times that you will fall short, and times you will exceed thier expectations. the only thing you need to concentrate on is that YOU are ok with how you are doing, you live for you not your family. they are both hard, it is hard to rise above, and it is hard when you fall short but at least when you fall short you have room to pick youself up again and fix things, when you only rise above all the time you dont learn as much, you have to make some mistakes in order to better yourself.

I think it's harder living up to expectations because there are those that expect you to succeed and this can be a tremendous amount of pressure fo the indiviual. plus if you failed it would be totally unbearable.
