Dont' be afraid to use tampons. They are actually more comfortable than wearing pads, but, if you're not up to it - talk to your PE teacher before hand and see if there is something you can work out. If not, keep an extra pair of shorts in your locker to wear on swim days when you have your period. You will be fine, just change your pad as soon as you get out. The shorts will help hide the bulk and no one will think twice about it.

although a tampon would make the situation easier, I'm the same. I cannot use tampons as I'm scared about using them. if you're on your period, then tell a female teacher and she should allow you to sit out the lesson. no teacher can force you to do something you are physically uncomfortable to do.
if you are scared of talking to the teacher yourself, you could ask your mother to write a note for them explaining the situation.

I agree with Cedric.

Also, you may want to search Yahoo!Answers for this question, as it comes up regularly.

Tampons are awkward the first few times you use one. I prefer Kotex because of the easy "applicator". Once you get used to them they are great, because they help control flow better than just a pad. Define what you are afraid of, and call the customer service number on the box. They should be able to answer you, and hopefully will calm your fears.

I use both, especially on heavy flow days.

Tell your pe teacher when you have your period. They can;t make you take swimming when you are bleeding. It Is unsanitary, and dangerous to the health of others. Personal experience.

You first have to talk to your mom or a trusted adult about tampons, they are not scary, they are super helpful. But since you may be either too young or not comforatable with using them, just take your gym teacher aside and explain that you have your period, they always are understanding, they have to be.

teachers are usually understanding about girls and their period .. so just explain it or get your parent to write a note (that's what i did in high school). and when you feel comfortable, seriously consider trying tampons .. they're a lot cleaner and much more comfortable since you can't feel them.

hey, i suggest you try a tampon. i was also very scared of using a tampon, then i decided to give them a go, when inserting it, i was very shocked by how far they went (sorry) lol but they do not hurt one bit to insert, they prevent leaks and they are soo much more comfortable, you cant even feel them. give them a go.
