Try scratch and dent stores. Look for ones with dents or dings on the sides or in the back since most of the time the sides and back are covered by cabinets anyway. You can get this stuff for 70-80% off alot of times, and it has to work safely and properly for them to sell it as and appliance, otherwise they are required by law to tell you if it doesn't.
You can also try big chain stores. When models are being upgraded they generally tend to give really big discounts on the old models.

check out www.Craigslist.com
click on the area you live in, on the right hand side
then locate freebies.
People are always getting rid of washers, dryers, refrigerators, for one reason or another, marriage, got new ones.
Just read listings carefully, if it doesnt say working, be sure to ask the poster before considering pick it up. Good Luck
(I currently have a washer I got off this website)

My opinion is GE makes the best Washer , ever, so make sure you are not looking to just buy cheap, I bought a new Frigidaire Washer from Sams, and it was piece of crap that broke down in less than a year- speaking of Sams, they will likely have the best price out there along with costco, if one is near you. Look for Adds by Sears also.

Go to Sears. They have a variety of types and price points. They also have good warranties and service options.
Also, don't be afraid to ask for discounts. Sometimes if you smooze them, they can give you a 15% friends and family discount, or if it was on sale and just went off, you still can get the sale price.
I like buying my appliances all from one dealer so in case I need service, (like an annual inspection) I can get more than one thing done at a time.

In Connecticut there is a Sears appliance outlet store - some floor models, dents, scratches etc. Prices are great. Maybe there is such a place near you.
