The liberals' organization seems to be the ACLU, and the Conservatives' organization seems to be the NRA, If you had to pick one to to be gotten rid of which would you choose. Remember, this is a hypothetical question, both groups make an effort the protect our rights. The ACLU defends the Right of Free Speech and the NRA defends the Right to bear arms. Don't get nasty just an answer and a short explanation.

Well, the pen is mightier than the sword.........

But I'm glad we killed enough Germans and Japanese to keep them away from America.......after they had ALREADY conquered 80% of the whole world !!!!

Since they couldn't read English, I guess shooting them was better.

We need both the ACLU and the NRA for the balance of it all.

Guns, voices and pens work well together, I think.

it's a bit of a generalized question... but I think the ACLU is needed more.. I mean what is the NRA even doing? every time I hear them complaining about something, it's paranoia... I don't see anyone threatening to take guns away... maybe a little group with 5 members somewhere... but nothing that is an actual threat...

The ACLU defends the people that don't have anyone else to defend them... so they make a bunch of people mad that way, but I think it's the American way that we all have representation...

If I had to pick, I'd say let the gun owners lobby themselves and keep the ACLU.

Here's why. If the government comes after your guns, both sides have got the guns. If the government comes after your ability to speak, the government has the guns and you can shout. Thus, there is a much greater danger of the government controlling expression than there is the government eliminating weaponry.

Also, the 2nd Amendment only protects against federal regulation of firearms, not against state/local laws. Thus, a national organization is not as important, since all of the major legislative battles regarding firearms are likely to happen at the state/local level.

Finally, of the two rights, I think it is more important that people be allowed to speak when they want to, choose what to believe in and who to associate with. I think that while weaponry might be important to many people, I'd rather people have the freedom to speak rather than the freedom to shoot. Seems to be more generally practical in day-to-day life.

I know many people who are upset with some of the causes that the ACLU chooses to support. However, people need to remember: freedom to speak and freedom to choose are not minority values just because the current majority would have chosen to say something else.

I do not agree with the right to bear arms, sorry. They just passed a law in Florida that you can shoot if you feel threatened. Bad Law. With the new no knock law cops will die in this state. Free speech never hurt anybody. Remember sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me. You can't talk someone to death!!!( although with some speakers it a close call) So I guess I'll go with the ACLU

The ACLU abuses their power and takes on some of the most frivolous lawsuits. They'd be outta here if it were up to me.
