Well, "by the teeth" would imply to fight like an animal, gnash, snarl, do whatever you must to hold on to your job.
If it's "by the skin of your teeth," however, it means you are barely making it (there is not much 'skin' on your teeth) and may lose your grip entirely.

I think you are confusing two 'sayings'. One is to get your teeth into something, which means to really dig in and become and expert in the field. The other is to get by, 'by the skin of your teeth', which means that you just barely fulfill the requirements. For example, if the passing grade is 50% and you get 51, you get through by the skin of your teeth. If, on the other hand, you get 98%, you really got your teeth into it.
Does that make sense?
Hope it helps.

Hold on to your job grimly unless and until you have a better offer in writing ready to sign.
"Grim determination is such a beautiful thing it makes all other human characteristics seem downright ugly by comparison."

If you're asking the "meaning" of it...
It simply means that you should keep hold of a good opportunity, even if you have to do so by holding it with your teeth...in other words...don't let someone or something snatch it from you.
If that's not what you mean, please add details. haha

If you're asking what that saying means...
It means hang on to your job as best you can in any way that you can and put your best effort into it.
The saying refers to someone using his/her own teeth to grab or bite onto something; usually a last, instinctive resort used in desperation, or else closely related to "sinking your teeth into it", which means to really immerse yourself into something whole heartedly, giving your best effort.

If you don't mean it literally, then it is an idiom. Hope this helps.
