It doesn't hurt when you do it. It is sore for a few days after, however. To people saying it hasn't been around long enough to know how it will react... hogwash. Piercing and tattoos have been around for CENTURIES, including tongue piercings. Even mummies from ancient Egypt have been found with piercings and tattoos. I had mine pierced once, took it out, and then re-pierced in the same place years later. It didn't hurt at all the first time, and only slightly a bit the second time (due to scar tissue). It is honestly the least painful piercing you can get, imo.

My husband got one done a while ago (5 years or so) and he said it hurt the least of all his piercings. And dont worry about a hole there later if you decide to do away with the tongue ring because you cant even tell he had one after he took it out a few years back,

HELL NO!! I'm sorry, I'm going to be honest, please don't take it the wrong way; I think tongue piercing is one of the dumbest things one can do to the body. It serves no purpose other than saying "I'm insecure and I didn't get enough attention so now I'm trying this to get attention". It just screams dysfunctional. It's not cool like you think it is. Just leave your tongue be and do something fun with your hair. Here's why: Because like a boob job, when you put something foreign IN your body, your body automatically forms scar tissue to try and protect itself. When you pierce your tongue, your piercing through tissue, muscle, nerves and ligaments. Your body spends all its time trying to protect itself from the metal through the tissue, nerves and ligaments by forming scar tissue around it.

Tongue piercing hasn't been around long enough to realize how bad the scar tissue can get and it literally could get bad enough to affect your speech permanently.

The person performing the act won't tell you that but a qualified doctor will.

It is sooooooo not worth it. honest to God.

I had pierced three times. It is not worth it. First time, I did it cause I want to be in and my tongue was swollen for 3 weeks so I took it off also I lost 15 pounds in a week and half. Second time, I broke up with my boyfriend and to loose weight I pierced my tongue again. Took it off to clean it and 30 min. my whole was closed. 3rd time to get my husband mad and I wasn't able to kiss him at all.

If your asking about it, it means you are not sure about it. My rule of thumb is to never do something you are unsure about. I had a friend that pierced her tongue, it was swollen for days, another time the bar got suck in the hole for a week and a half, no one could get it out. However, it's all up to you my dear.

people who get piercings of any kind are complete morons. why ruin a perfectly good body just for a fad? You'll talk like a hare lip, ruin your teeth, risk infections, risk choking on the thing, and show your stupidity.

To me it felt like a brief sting for the actual piercing, like getting a shot, but afterwards it swells and is sore for a couple of days. not too bad at all for me, but I have heard people say it hurt really bad for them.

You have to relearn how to eat afterwards to keep from biting on the ring and possibly cracking teeth and you have to keep it very clean and rinse your mouth constantly for weeks with a 1/2 water 1/2 listerine mix.

It's like a pinch on your tongue the only bad thing is that you have to be careful cause the ring will and kinda eat away at your teeth.
