He was awesome! to his mannersims, to his singing, the way he walked. Just like Cash did! Wow! I was totally impressed. You can totally tell that Joaquin studied Mr Cash very well! NOt to mention hit head on with his look of Cash too!

Yeah, definitely.

He really did his best, he worked hard: in terms of old-skool acting style, and he wasn't pretentious, yet he was overwhelming. A truly remarkable performance, from both of the leading actors: they enriched the whole movie, which actually had a pretty ordinary story.

It shouldn't suprise you, though, because Johnny Depp never won an Oscar either, while it is clear he is one of the most talented ones out there.

PS. He probably wouldn't insist on singing the songs himself, btw, but the director insisted, and by the contract, he had to do it, so he simply acted like a professional, and did it.
Expecting him to sing as good as Cash is so naive, his job was to do his best, and the director's vision was to make a sincere movie.
And that's all there is to it. He did well.

NO only because first of all he was not up against Jake Gylenhall, but Philip Seymour Hoffman who did Capote, the movie was excellant and i met Trueman Capote in New York and you would hardly be able to tell the difference he was dead on,however i loveJohnny Cash and i do think Joaquin did a good job.

He was good no doubt. He was just a victim of timing. I don't think the Academy would hand awards to two autobiographical singers two years in a row.

He did a good job acting, so yes. He just shouldn't have tried to sing all those Johnny Cash songs. He didn't do them justice.

I think he's an amazing actor...but i think the movie was very disappointing...It was difficult to watch (or listen) to him in the beginning singing I was CRINGING...But he got better as the movie went on...all said and done..he was great but the movie was so-so...so no..I don't think he should have won for this,,,hopefully he has many more great movies left in him.....

Thank you! I think he did so much better, but of course BBM got so much attention for being the first movie of its kind to be so big... He's so much more talented than those actors!
