Is it possible for a person to marry a U.S. citizen inside the U.S. while on vacation (without any type of fiance/spouse visa)?

If so, would the person be elgible to remain in the U.S. indefinitely, or would a special visa still be required?

My husband is from Canada and we got married here in the states. We went through a immigration process and that took about 8 months. We went to an interview with the INS and he was approved for resident status. We have to wait three years he was approved for resident status and then he will apply for citizenship. But we hired a lawyer who specializes in this type of work. Because if you don't dot all your I's and cross all your T's correctly they can recject your application. It was very stressful for my husband and I. We have been together for 5 years now. Good luck!!

Yes it is possible to marry..I married a Canadian, we are in the process of filing all the papers and there are alot...make sure you file for a work authorization visa along with all the other paper work, that will allow the person to work while they are waiting for their green card/permanant residedent status..it is a very long process...good luck!

yes, I did. I married an american when i was here on vacation. Right after our wedding we started the process of filing papers with the INS. It is a long process, but well worth it. We are still married after 8 years.
