In most cases, the difference will be in core course requirements and terminal requirements. A B.A. might require you to take a greater number of liberal arts courses, for example, and conclude with a project that bridges biology and other fields of inquiry. A B.S. usually would involve greater focus within the major (and, by extension, the discipline/scientific community), and usually has a slightly more preprofessional slant.

Since you state that you definitely want to be a publicist then major in mass communications! That is what communications is all about!! And as the first answerer mentioned they don't offer Liberal Arts degrees as a Bachelors of Science. You shouldn't worry about having a BA rather than a BS because the only difference really is the number of math and science courses, which you won't need as a publicist. btw, many colleges require students to have atleast 2nd year proficiency in a foreign language to graduate regardless of their degree, be it BS or a BA.

I didn't even know there was such a thing as a BA in Biology. I have a BS in Psychology. I think my school used to have a BA program but trashed it at my campus while keeping it at another campus. The only difference I can think of between the two programs is the biology requirement...the BA requirement isn't biology but natural science. Beyond that, BA candidates have to take more foreign language while BS candidates only have to take 2 consecutive semesters of the same language, at my school anyway.

The courses outside of the major that you have to take. A BS requires more science courses, a BA requires more humanities.

BA= Bachelor of the Arts of a particular major
BS= Bachelor of Science of a particular major
BA is more of the hands on or learning how to do something and having knowledge in that field, where as a BS is more of the history of the subject or area of specilty, knowing how something works or how it came to be.

You've got some wrong answers on this list!
A "B.A." is not as difficult to get because it has much less math and technical content. It's the degree you get if, for example, you're planning on being a science teacher, and NOT a scientist.
A "B.S." is heavy in math and tech classes. It's worth more if you're going into a science/tech field for a living. You will be more employable. A BA is fine if you're studying Art, English, History...things like that.
(Trust me...I teach college. I wouldn't lie to you!)

I agree to a point with steven (above), but it does somewhat depend on the field you're talking about. The science example he gives is accurate, but in the case of music, a B.A. would be a performance degree, while the B.S. degree would actually be a B.S.E. (bachelor of science in education) and includes all the education courses (educational psychology, teaching theory, etc.) needed to teach music in a primary or secondary school classroom.
