It seems to me that they didn't get as much out of Taylor Hicks as they thought they would ("they" being Idol producers and the record company), so they try to "up" his popularity by putting him on a lot and making the commercial cheesy.
In my opinion, the WRONG way to go about things like this.

Him winning Idol is waaay too much! I hate him so much! The only reason he won is because people like my grandma are allowed to use the phone!

On way too much, and is too much in itself .. I am sorry - was never a fan, so am biased-
BTW, i like your answer, it is so true, people say I love you,in order to distract from the real problem at hand !!

It's even on Spanish stations. That just goes to show it's not just you and it is on WAY TOO MUCH.
