The best advice I can give you is to go to a department store, go to the make-up counters, I suggest not buying any make-up for a few weeks and just go to each brand and ask the sales person to try out some stuff on you (let her know if you are going for a natural, bronze, party look etc), I would suggest going to a different brand counter each week that way you can leave the make-up on all day and decide whether it has lasted long and if it still looks fresh and whether its comfortable to wear all day. Make sure to add up how much each brand costs and how long before its use by date (e.g mascara only lasts 6 months and foundation usually 8 months). So it really is just experimenting, its worth shopping aroud.
It does vary person to person but as a rough guide, I'm 17 and have extremely clear skin and I use Benefit make-up, the look I get may not be the same as someone for instance with acne or something!
Benefit bad gal mascara is the best mascara I've ever owned thats for sure and I have had maybelline, clinique, revlon, l'oreal, mary kay and mac mascara in the past!
Beware though make-up is only as good as the skin underneath it (does that make sense?), you really should invest in a good skincare regime ie. cleanse, exfoliate and mosturize and be careful in the sun no matter what your skin colour.

I will be COMPLETELY honest with you. I will give you a GREAT link for you and everyone else that is reading this that will blow your mind away about Health & Beauty products. Makeup in particular. I sell Arbonne and I personally feel that Arbonne is the best makeup there is, but that is MY opinion. Here is the link to give you some education that Cosmetic companies DON'T tell you: www.safecosmetics.org! I really hope this helps. If you want, you are more than welcome to check out my personal site where I hold many different businesses. Take care and GOD Bless!

Let me give you some advice. Most makeups are made equal. If you buy expensive brands (i.e., Elizabeth Arden, Channel, Lancome, Estee Lauder etc.) you are simply paying for the name. Look on the label, it it says "fragrance free, hypoallergenic, non comedogenic, non acnegenic, dermotologist tested, and oil free" it's good makup. I use Clinique but Maybeline and Revlon and Almay (just to name a few) are just as good.

it depends on what your skin tone and type are. some brands offer a bigger variety for skin tones depending on how light or dark you are. also if you have oily skin oy problem skin you want to use a makeup thats oil free and be sure you get a good makeup remover

I think it really depends on which product you are purchasing. I have my mascara in one brand, eye shadow in another and ALWAYS Revlon for my liquid foundation.
