Levitation (from Latin levis, light) is the process by which an object is suspended against gravity, in a stable position, by a force without physical contact.

Levitation can be achieved through jets of gas pushing upwards against the object (as in air hockey), or pushing downwards from the object (as in helicopters, VTOL aircraft, and hovercraft). Levitation through forces that act at a distance, such as through magnetic force is also possible.

The concept of Levitation is also a part of some Eastern religions and magical beliefs.

A superconductor can also be seen as a magnetic mirror - a magnet will "see" a magnet of opposite sign in the mirror, the two magnets repell and so the magnet levitates. It is also the basic principle behind the trains that a person before me was talking about, just that the geometry there is more complex to help keep the train above the tracks.

Yes. They have levitated a frog using very powerful electromagnets.

Not just people. Mag Lev trains are entire passenger trains that are suspended off the track by either super conductors or just normal electromagnetic fields. They have done just a single sumo wrestler as well using super conductors.
