i happen to see myself intelligent , but with this movie, i just cant understand it. is there someone out there who can help me with this dillema?

It is one of those movies that has to do with time/space continuum and if you could change your destiny would you movies, but have to agree with you that it was hard to follow. The whole thing with Patrick Swayze should have been cut out entirely as it detracted from the plot.
Donnie saw what the future would be if he had lived and chose not to by going back into the house and having the jet engine fall on him and kill him.

basically, Donnie found a way to go back in time and sacrifice himself for everyone's sake. yep.
