it feeds the mind's unending need for conflict, desire, pleasure and pain. Peace of mind is mostly unknown to it; the mind fears the unknown so it tends to return to the familiar, no matter how unpleasant. Unfortunately that is how we are all raised and expected to behave--read some J Krishnamurti for some real help

Because they are trying to make themselves happy. Problem is, they haven't realized happiness doesn't come from possessions or stuff....it comes from within. The more unhappy a person is, the more stuff they want and normally it grows to include things they just can't get.

It's a part of the human condition; we want what is beyond our reach because we dream to have it. If we didn't have desires or goals--or the gumption to reach our easier to obtain goals, then we'd cease to exist as living people and delve into mindless miserable people.

the reason for this is the simple fact that if any one thing is forbiden to you then you just automaticlly desire to have it. this is a prime example of what i like to call human nature.
