A Director's cut is what the director wanted the finished movie to be and usually does have more scenes or extends the scenes that were in the theater version.
After a movie is completed, they run it by test audiences and they edit/cut out parts that are not necessary for the film to be a success or that the audience doesn't like to make it more watchable, therefore more marketable. While there are many exceptions to the rule these days, most studios try to keep movies under 90 minutes because to go longer somebody is likely to miss something because they have to go to the bathroom. Now if it is on a DVD, you can just pause it and come back to it and not miss anything.

Sometimes movie studios cut off some footage because of the length of it or its content. Other times the Directors had too cut off some of the film because of the above reasons. Directors cut just means there are extra scenes not shown in theatres

I was talking to my brother on the phone the other day and he was telling me all the movies he got for his birthday. He got to Brokeback Mountain and I was "why the f**k did they buy you that movie?" He didn't have a good answer so yeah it makes a guy think. But then again maybe your friend heard it was a really good movie and wanted to see for himself. Good luck.

Brokeback Mountain is actually a great movie. It is only ridiculed by those who are small minded or have not seen it. So it means that he bought a movie.

It just means that the DVD contains lots of useless information for the die-hard fan. Most of the clips are deleted and were deemed useless to the movie.

Ow. Damn. And I haven't even seen the movie yet. For making me rethink some of the lines from my favorite Clint Eastwood westerns, you should be shot, but it WAS a damned funny way to make me rethink them, so for that, you get a STAR!
