You should do whatever you feel comfortable doing. If you think taking a razor to your genitals is a frightening idea, you should just go natural. Don't feel pressured to do anything drastic.

no, a doctor once told me it is bad for your genital area and the skin around there will toughen up or something..it's ok to trim but don't shave

You can't make a guy to do something like, HE is the who supposed to decide for himself. If you want something to be done, communicate with your partner calmly and rationally, and you'll see that everything's going to be okay.
