A passport is all he/she will need if they've got a return ticket. No return ticket and no visa means you get turned around and kicked outta the country...

Make sure you have lots of soap.

We don't have soap in Australia and I've noticed that most foreign people bath (with soap).

If they are only staying a short term (less than 3 months), they don't need a visa. Australia is part of the visa-waiver program, which means it's citizens can visit without a visa. They will need a passport valid for 6 months after the visit (e.g. if they visit for a month in august), the passport should be valid until at least through Feb 2007. They will need to complete a visa waiver form which the airline will give them on the flight.

Your visitor will need a passport and a visa. The Visa tells the authorities how long he/she will be in the US where they will be, and why they are in the US.

Make sure it's a machine-readable passport.
