A pet is technically, any companion animal. I know of a pet cow, she is treated like a pet instead of livestock. It really depends on how you personally think of them.

My horse is my pet. I also have a turtle who is my pet. I love and pet them both. Not all pets live in the house, lots of dogs and cats live outside. A pet is any legal animal that you care about.
My grandfather used to have 3 cows as pets.

A horse can most definately be considered a pet. Other ways to consider something as pets are if you show them love and if some how they may acknowledge it (which horses DO), or if you consider them companion, you talkto them. You talk to your dogs and cats, and everyone I know (me & my daughter included) talkes to their horses. People do also pet horses. I have never heard of any guidelines of what can and what cannot be a pet, well, except lions, tigers and the such. Just, if it gives you pleasure, and it accepts you, why not. Oh yeah, and it's not illegal.

I think this is a philosophical question, but I would say that any animal can be a pet. I think that as long as youre gifting them with a home and some love and food, etc, that they are then, a pet, regardless of size or species.

A pet is any animal that you keep that is not livestock and does not work. So one sheep can be a pet, a flock of sheep in a field is livestock, the sheepdog is a working dog.
Your personal definition of a pet happens to be one thats nice to stroke; doesnt mean its the same for everyone else; even though tarantulas are furry...

A pet is defined as any animal kept for companionship or pleasure and treated with care and affection.

So yes it could be a horse or lizard.

On the other hand technically a dog is not a pet if it is mistreated or kept for some work purpose, eg guard dog or sheep dog..

Dogs, Cats, Rats, Mice, Hamsters, Gerbils, Guinea Pigs, Rabbits, Deraboas, Chinchillas, Little Brothers {J/K}, Fish, Parakeets, Cockatoos, Cockateils, Macaws, Parrots, Lovebirds, Toads, Frogs, Salamanders, Snakes, Snails, and Rocks, .. {Whoever owns those.... o.o}, and spiders....
Some uncommon, but still fairly popular pets are
Miniature Horses, Mini Cows, Rocks {Yes this still is popular but it's soooo the 70's}, Chickens, Insects, and Pigs.

I would say yes because i love animals and if you keep a pet you must feel something for it otherwise you wouldn't have it. It is all about love because if you kept a jumpping spider int he house because you ar eto terrified to chuck it out you would not call it a pet it depends how you see it

definitions of pet: an animal kept for amusement or companionship; an object of the affections; a person especially loved or indulged; a favorite.

with this, i guess any animal you keep, might it be an elephant or an ant, would classify as a pet.

heck, if you're keeping people locked and caged, and it amuses you, then you can call them pets. but its a little psychotic. just a tad =D

any animal can be a pet, my mom had a wild squirrel as a pet, he fell out of the net when he was a baby and she raised it, when it was old enough she released it and it always came to her when she went out side and gave it treats, it also would come in the house, but it was still a wild animal, horses are considered pets because you still got to take care of them, feed them, wash them, and pay for medical bills, they are your pet.

no you aren`t wrong, because everyone has his or her own oppinion of things like for example pets. In my oppinion a pet is any animal that you love and care for, but that doesn`t mean everyone thinks that way. So yes i would consider my horses as pets because i love them and stroke them and they do live at my house just not inside, and my brother stroke his lizard and it loves it. So you aren`t wrong for thinking that and you don`t have to be because like i`ve said before everone has his or her own oppinion.
