this is because a lot of people are migrating in canada nowadays but there are not as many houses as per the families. so u can say that ratio is not proportional and when it will be then only the prices of houses can come down. demand is more but houses are less.

I agree, prices are way too high. It's because of the boom in places like Alberta. People have a habit of thinking that if something sells for x dollars out there then it should sell for the same price everywhere else, regardless of if the item is actually worth the price. It's a case of more demand than supply. I really wouldn't want to buy one of those new houses that are springing up overnight. Just imagine all the corners that were cut when the contractors decided to cut corners and make an even bigger profit. Remember the condo problem out in Vancouver, B.C.? Same thing happened there. People were out to make a buck and didn't put the condos up properly.

Idealistically, the government should be able to step in with anti-gouging laws. Realistically, the buying public should be saying enough is enough and refuse to pay these ridiculous prices. But the problem is that people do need to live somewhere and paying rent is just money out the window.

For one, don't go thru an agent, everytime a house is sold the big increase is the increase the agent/real estate co. uses to gouge the seller and buyer. Plus builder's inflate the cost of materials just like any contractor and the cost go's sky high. And it isn't only in Canada, its everywhere. It is becoming outrages and we all pay for the greed...
