I would say a big ride on toy--preferably one that is *simple* and baby-powered. I got a Little Tykes rocking horse for one of my kids (many years ago) when he was almost a year old. And I got a low plastic tricycle (no pedals) for my daughter when she turned one.

I just had this problem. so we got her a toy, a leap frog learning toy..and she played with a paper towel roll! My suggestion...a roll of paper towels!!! Seriously..look at walmart or target..I wouldn't go expensive she doesn't have a long attention span at this age and so something like building blocks, or one of those balls with the cut out shapes that she can drop the matching shape into, those are perfect for her age! Congrats on making it through the first year!!!

I went to Wal-Mart and got all my daughters toys from there and I still get most of them from there and she is 4 years now. Get her thing that she can walk with or around and a little riding toy she might not use it now but she will before she 2. good luck and congratulations

Go old school: Wooden blocks, Duplo type blocks, fat crayons and coloring books, doll and stroller, big plastic dump trucks, cheap musical instruments like plastic drums and tambourines. All of these things will help her develop motor skills and they'll grow with her. You can find all of these items anywhere. Try to avoid battery powered things because for the most part kids lose interest in them a lot faster.

My daugher will be one the end of the month. We got her a Disney Princess rocking chair from Kmart, a Disney Princess lamp for her room from Wal-Mart, a toddler size Care Bear from Shopko, some Baby Einstein books (any bookstore or Baby Einstein.com) and some clothes.

My son's favorite toy is one that is helping him learn to walk. "The baby steps activity walker."He holds on and pushes the toy and it plays music. When he's not pushing it, he can sit in the front of it and play with the options of putting the balls in the hole or turning the noise wheel or push on the button that makes funny sounds. My son is hard to keep happy for long, but he loves this item.

I bought a wooden rocking horse for my son's first birthday. He was still a little young for it, but still rides it now (he's 4). I wanted something that he could pass down to his children. I will be buying another one for my second child this October! We went to a local specialty store to buy it. (They sell Amish furniture and wooden toy boxes, etc.)
Duplos, colorful wooden blocks, shape sorters, etc would also be great gifts!
