All the festivals run through August. Go see a comedian (but book now!!!!!!!) Edinburgh comedy festival (all through August) is the premier comedy event in the world. Each year the Perrier award goes to the best comedian (the holy grail of comedy awards) After which stardom is pretty much assured to the recipient. There is absolutely tonnes & tonnes of different things to do. Film festivals, music festivals anything you could hold a festival for really!!!!! Go online and look up "edinburgh fringe festival" that should put you right! Its not cheap to drink in Edinburgh, but the choice and quality of the places on offer is excellent. My favorite pubs are Brass Monkey (Drummond Street) (quality rock and indie played from behind the bar, big chill out/cinema room) The Pear Tree (West Nicolson Street) (Massive beer garden with barbecue, i'm sure there will be a stage outside too for live bands) Whistle Binkies (North Bridge) (Live bands and late opening, 5am I think) George Street for upmarket drinking) Are you a binge drinker? Head to Rose Street, have a drink in every pub if you can handle it, apparently its never been done. Thats bad advice to give, don't want you visiting our new hospital to get your stomach pumped. AVOID LOTHIAN ROAD (West end of Princes Street) its full of Neds and arseholes, theres always trouble there. For food try B'est restaurant (Drummond street) or Le Sept (Hunter Square) for keenly priced quality grub. I also recommend all the attractions that people have come to Edinburgh for years to see (Castle, Holyrood Palace (climb the extinct volcano nearby -Arthurs Seat - for amazing views) Avoid the dungeon thingy in Market Street, its a load of cheesy unscary nonsense, and camera obscura (plain old rubbish) Mary Kings Close (the Royal Mile) is a must, (an old street that was built over during the plague. If you like football, Heart of Midlothian(Gorgie Road) or Hibernian(Easter Road) play in the scottish top-flight. Edinburgh is as good if not better than any city in the world in fact no it IS the best city in the world! Hope you have a great time! Just thought I might add, since you seem to be getting answers from "WEEDGIES!" Glasgow is the worst place in Europe for stabbings (recorded once at an average of 25 a day!! Over a SIX MONTH period!! Aye they are amiable alright...when they're putting your phone and money in their pockets and wiping their knife on your clothes! Glaswegians hate Edinburgh, when you come here and enjoy yourself, you'll see why. Go to Glasgow and you'll soon see why the feeling is mutual! NO! DON'T! I'm just kidding!!

Edinburgh is a fab city will loads to do and see. There are great places to eat and the night life is fab. Shopping is not as good as Glasgow but for £1.00 (bus stop in Princes Street) you can go to the Gyle shopping Centre and £1.00 in the opposite centre Ocean Terminal. Ocean Terminal is in Leith an up and coming area of Edinburgh and is quite classy with good restaurants and a cinema. Glasgow is less than an hour by train and there is a very frequent service (every 15 minutes from on the hour). www.visitscotland.com or do a search on google should give you more information. Enjoy yourself.

Edinburgh Castle, Princes Street, The Royal Mile, and St Giles' cathedral. And if you're after a bite to eat, I heartily recommend Greyfriar's Bobby's Bar. Their food is fantastic. I also suggest that if you are ever in "Auld Reekie" in August, the fringe festival is worth taking in. Don't forget the Edinburgh Military Tattoo (an extravaganza not to be missed).

Heart of Midlothian v Glasgow Celtic at Tynecastle Stadium on Sunday 6th August (if you can get a ticket). This has the makings of a great match between the top two teams in the Scottish Premier League from last season.

As slutttt said,
The Underground Vaults are a must.
But personally, the best thing to to come out of Edinburgh is the motorway to Glasgow pal.
The best thing you could do is take a day trip through here.
You'll find the people a LOT more friendly and amiable

I visited a few places.

Edinburgh's castle's great but nothing beats Loch Ness & Inverness!!

Get a place to stay in Inverness and you're guaranteed beautiful night scene of the shores, the town.
