You'll like this. My kids are 26;25 and 11 and we all like the same music. My daughters are into a little bit of rap like Emenem and we love Seal. We love TLC; Dave Matthews, Evanessence and so on. We also love 70's and 80's music. My son is into all kinds of music. We are pretty well rounded as a family, and no they don't change it if I like it too. My kids and I are close. I take time to be interested in their stuff.

I try to think of myself as an open kind of Mom so I try to get involved in what my kids do, and that includes what music they listen to! I can't be everywhere they are to screen what they're listening to so I listen along with them and sing with them if I can figure out the lyrics. This way I can also explain what the lyrics mean. I found that this way if the lyrics are to suggestable in any subject they usually do not want to hear that song anymore. I buy their cds at Wal-mart do to the fact they sensor all the bads words out. The kids don't care if I like any group they do. We all like some of the sensored Eminem. I have my kids listen to a variety of music from all generations. To be honest they like the 80's music the best! That was my generation!

Not particularly but my parents didn't like my music either. So life goes on with socialistic changes we are powerless to stop.
My favorite music is classical (Brahms, Vivaldi, Chopin, and Beethoven). And interestingly enough my kid's like them also.
No, we usually have an interest in each other's choices and neither of us stop liking them if each other show an interest.
We also watched the TV show when INFX was trying to find a lead singer.(I think that wa the name of the rock band? Kids aren't around right now to ask.)
We respect each others choices in music - I think that is important. Good luck. :O)

I was into the bizarre, far-out artists from 1980 thru 85 and on... so the stuff my kid listens to now, like Outkast, Gorillaz, Linkin Park, White Stripes, Green Day, etc is not any different than what I listen to myself...except maybe a little more mild.
Oh and yeah... She still likes them because my interest is genuine and low key.

I am 35 and my 4 year old daughter likes the same music that I do, which is a variety from Bon Jovi & Nickelback to Kenny Chesney and Rascal Flatts. My 6 year old son isn't much into music yet.

I have a 7 year old daughter and have a very eclectic taste in music. I enjoy the music my mom listened too...and of course enjoy music from all genres and decades....from classical to world music and everything in between. I am raising my daughter to appreciate all cultures and all types of music. My daughter and I enjoy a lot of the same music...and love to dance to Aly & AJ and the High School Musical soundtrack. I think it's great that we don't have a generation gap when it comes to our taste in music.

I'll be 50 in a couple of days and am proud to say that my son and his buddies were raised on classic rock and roll; I've turned them on to swing(Gene Krupa-great drummer), heavy metal, country, classical(my son recently took dance in school and showed me how to cha cha), punk; favorite band: DOORS with Jim Morrison; They've turned me on to some rap, new punk, Pussycat Dolls, Techno(even though I was aware of it during the 70's-80's while hanging out in Europe); they all play musical instruments and many are in bands! I love sharing music with my son(s)-I say (s) because a few of his buddies practically live here and I consider them part of the family!

My kids and I listen to the same radio stations (usually top 40), but we do not buy the same CD's. I am sorry, but there is nothing more annoying than the voice of the lead singer of Green Day! They also like Hilary Duff! YIKES!
