I'm planning to relocate to the Midwest (I presently live in NY) in about 2 weeks... I have no new job lined up... from your experience, what do you recommend to people who want to make this daring venture into something many would consider risky? I'm all ears (or eyes, in this case).. tips on moving and finding an apt. while staying at a motel for a few days, would be appreciated, as well as finding work.

Always, Always make sure you have enough funds to last you just in case of emergency and then some!Using the web has lots of sites where you could search for anything u need in other states. As far as employment, Trust in God and make the "Best" decisions you can, just so you wont regret moving if you ever decide to again, and always remember everything might not work out just the way you want but all you can do is make it work and bee strong and don't get discourage! GOOD LUCK

believe me, it was very hard for me but here i am a year later and i am doing fairly ok. I moved from Illinois back to Ohio with my son. I am also a single mom. What I did is just take some time off from the big move and then go on out there and put them apps in and surely in a few weeks or so or even you keep in contact with them and you will surely find a job just donot stress about it and it will be fine. Actually before you move you should make sure that you have family, friends etc. that can send you a local paper so you can look through that paper for local apts, jobs etc. cause right now i have family that i am staying with until i have a place that i am looking into right now so good luck to you.

Look for listings online and start sending your resume now you can schedule the interview in 2 weeks. Also try to find a Head Hunter that will help you connect with employers. Maybe this is a long shot but maybe at your current company they have a branch at that city and you can transfer or they may know someone. If you're leaving because you're moving which is a legitimate reason I'm sure your boss or other co-workers will be more than happy to help.

I did the same thing last year. I would look for jobs with an area hospital or the state government. They are usually major employers. I found a part time job to tide me over and then I applied for a state job and was hired.

As far as housing, go to the craigslist website and look for rooms for rent or post a bartering agreement (for example, I'll clean your house if you let me stay rent free until I find employment). Also you can look for house siting jobs. You would get to stay in a really nice house with food for free ..it is a lovely set up, trust me.

You can try a headhunter or job search agency. I went through one when I relocated and it worked out well. It's in their best interest to find you a job (they get a commission).
