You didn't mention what state you live in.

In any event, with some very narrow exceptions (having to do with owning property or consuming alcohol), the age of majority in every state in the union is 18. At age 18, you acquire all the rights and responsibilities of an adult.

See this Wiki article for guidance.

Your boyfriend can tell his parents to go to hell. And if they really are trying to control him until his 25th birthday, he should be telling them to go to hell anyway. Tell him to move his #ss out. If his parents threaten him in any way, he can call the police.

Feel free to contact me through this service if you want any more guidance on this matter.

Legally your boyfriend is an adult according to the law, you however will have to wait until you are 18. Although it is okay from some people (depending on the situation), you both should wait a little while before you move out together. Your chances of finishing school and being secure are a bit greater. But legally, he can leave home. although wiser to wait, best of luck

Well, now, these guys are right - at 18 you've attained your "majority", that is, you're no longer a minor, and can live and go wherever you please.

HOWEVER! - if there are family trusts, wills, inheritances, etc., and the parents are trustees, or whatever, they may be able to hold these financial and family considerations over your boyfriends head, so to speak, and enforce their will by threatening disinheritance.

I mean, he can split, but he may have to consider the extent of his sacrifice.

Will he forfeit a chance at their support for college?

Could be a lot of things.

You can move out legally at the age of 18 , at 18 your considered a adult by law. So he does not have to have their permission to move out...maybe they don't like you is the reason their putting up such a big fuss

Since you don't say what state you're in, no one can "leave a source." In most states, however, the authorities will not force a 17 or older person to return home. It will help if he has a job or a place to stay, of course.

You're a legal age when you turn 18 aren't you?

25? They're nuts. He can leave whenever he wants....how old is he?? Maybe it depends on what state you live in....
