To those who say I was judging. I pasted the dictionary's many definitions of a bum. A bum is not always considered a derogatory word.

It all depends upon what issues makes that person a bum on the street, is it because they are lazy and have no drive or ambition just because they don't want to do anything or is it because of social, mental, financial disorders or situations. Then "No" I do not. A lot of people you call "bums" have a lot of obstacles that are preventing them from climbing out of the state they are in.

Some are addicted to drugs and have no control. Some need mental help, and cannot be provided with the medications to keep them stable(thanks to former President Reagan there was a significant rise in mental health center closures and medications not provided to those who desperately needed them) and they cannot keep or hold a job without them, thus a conundrum.

Some have been physically, sexually, mentally abused as children and in adult relationships and with the low self esteem find solace in the streets, so "No" I am not better. It is our duty as a human not to judge those and look after one another, we are all part of the human race and some of us have the cards stacked in our favor and some of us do not, that does not make us better as a human than the next.

I am no better than anyone else and besides your so called bums nowdays are ppl like you or I, I can comfortably say that because I was, as you put it, a bum at 22 years of age, now I'm 32 with my own bussiness and I drive a 2006 toyota truck bought and paid for. I don't feel that I'm better because I have what I have I was just given a brush with good luck is all. Having an unfortunate thing happen such as being homless can happen to anyone and can happen to me again who knows but just because someone did'nt have the luck I did does't make them any worse of a preson just someone that needs support and a push in the right direction. We should not be so quick judge.

No Laura I don't think I am better. I know that a lot of "bums" have mental and addiction issues that may or may not be the reason they are on the street. I met a "bum" one time in Chicago, begging for money. By mere chance I was at a gathering in another part of the city and saw the same "bum" coming out of an apartment. I told everyone I knew from then on about him. He was taking away from street people who needed the money he sob storied people out of. He was no more homeless than you or I. It makes me angry that he had the brass ones to do that. Thanks for the vent.

No, not at all. There are some good people out there but most people don't bother to find out.

I know lot's of people who you might call "bums", and I respect them as they respect me. Why would they be any better than me? What does "better" mean in this context anyway?

No way! No one is better than another... we are all sinners... it's not about the sallary, its about who you really are and even if you are the grat person who stands for God and everyhitng that is good... you still will never be perfect! neither would a bump on a log.
