The real problem in this world is the human race. Although it seems a bit handy as a place for us to hang out. All the problems come from us. I think foremost is the fact that the planet is probably already populated beyond its ability to sustain mankind. I think given time, the problem will correct itself as far as the planet is concerned. The whole concept is pointless because the sun will eventually get us anyway.

Greed . Pollution (which mostly comes from greed.) Man's inhumanity to man. Lack of birth control in parts, due to poverty.
That comes back to greed too...If the wealthy nations helped the poor ones I think most of the problems could be overcome.
Actually greed is first & foremost by a long shot. Everything else seems to stem from it. No matter how much we have, we are never content. We always want more.

The real problems of this world is war. Violence caused my mere conflicts result in depression, fear, and more importantly death. War causes immense damage to cultures, places, and all living things. Disagreements is not a valid cause of war--in fact, there is none.

And what to do about war? Write to officials, be part of peaceful groups like amnesty international, help those who have been tremendously affected by others who have made poor and deadly decisions. Talk to young people, they are the source of the future, they can help save lives and save the world.

Several answers have mentioned greed, and I agree but let's call it "over-consumption". We are living beyond the means of the planet to support us. We are already seeing scarcity of vital resources such as water, as well as other basic needs. The poorer countries will suffer the most, and thousands will die; but as rich countries consume more and more and there is less and less to go around there will be fighting and killing. The very rich will probably last the longest, but in the end you cannot eat money. It is imperative that humans adopt a simpler lifestyle NOW. See the sources below
