I had my pool opened professionally and they shocked it and said everything is fine. Then, we put in the chlorine tablets like we were told but the chlorine level is not showing up for some reason. Are we supposed to be doing something else also?

Simply shock it again. The shock they added probably got "used up" in sanitizing the water from over the winter. Give it another blast and it should be fine.

i take care of my pool and i use the tablets also. i also use a liquid chlorine compound that's usually sold in 1 gallon jugs. i will usually just guestimate the amount of chlorine neccessary to change the concentration, but i usually dump in about 1/2 a gallon every time i see a low concentration. the tablets are just there to keep a small but steady supply of chlorine in your pool. the tablet puts chrorine in the pool at the same rate that interest grows on 20 bucks in the bank account.

Now are we talking about CHLORINE a.k.a. calcium hydrochloride or that new finagled stuff that doesn't show up on a chlorine test?

Chlorine evaporates pretty quick. It also goes "stale" if it's been sitting around a while.

I would guess that either you didn't add enough to raise the level noticeably or you've got some old stuff.

That often happens--don't worry with it too much--the next time you add chrlorine, add stabilizer as well and level the pump on all the time. You will not have to worry nearly as much with the chlorine level---don't worry if it shows low--it always seems to.

Are you using ph test strips? they are the best way to test ph and chlorine levels. you may need to shock again , typically about 16oz of shock to 10,000 gals of water

Maybe you should call and ask them because they are the ones who instructed you on what to do with your pool. They would probably know best. Good luck!

Are the tablets in a floating dispenser? If so, open the holes more.

I know they cost a lot of money for upkeep. Congratulations for being so well off.
