A ticked off woman, I am sure. And I would also bet that the doll was her cheating, no good husband or boyfriend.
Voodoo has it's roots in Africa. It was brought to Haiti by the slaves that were captured and taken there.

If you mean literally, the "voodoo" doll came from Haiti, where this religion is practiced. But the basic idea -- an image of a person which you mutilate in some way in order to harm the actual person -- goes back to prehistory. The ancient Egyptians, the Greeks, and the Romans all left records of incidents of black magic using images. (For good results you had to include some of the victim's hair or skin, and blood was best of all if you could get some. Finger- and toe-nail parings were good, too. Ahem. Where was I? Oh, yes:) The idea is that effects resemble causes, a basic principle in magic. That is why magicians will (for instance) sprinkle water when they want to get rain, or cense a doll with sweet-smelling perfumes when they want to put a lady in a good mood with a love-spell.
(Do not try this at home! If your lady friend happens to know anything about magic herself, she will realize what is happening, and use the link you are establishing to cast a counterspell back at you that will rattle your teeth!)
