The maximum weight that a circular column can hold is inversely proportional to the square of it's height.

w = k/h^2, where w = weight, h = height and k is the constant of proportionality
h = 8, w = 2
2 = k/8^2
2 = k/64
k = 128

w = 128/h^2
w = 128/10^2
w = 128/100
w = 1.28

I'm guessing 2 1/2 tons. But I'm probably wrong. I graduated with a B.A. in English and barely passed my last math class. The prof. was merciful.

1.28 tons

1/64 x = 2
x= 128

1/100 x 128 = 1.28

8ft=2 ton so 4ft=1 ton so 2ft = .5 ton

8ft + 2ft = 10ft
(2) +(.5)= 2.5 ton
