I did it (if I did) with as much (of what I did) as I was capable (assuming I was able to) of doing it. Hopefully well, in a timely manner and with out embarrassing my self, my family or friends and if I got recognition for it, I would be very happy (assuming of course that the very act of doing it was not automatically rewarding in it self).

There are way too many ways to answer this question. I am not going to assume any one thing, so my answer is the correct way, or a reasonable approximation of a socially accepted way of performing a given task.

and one could also add 'what will you do?' whatever need to be done, however it need to be done. we don't really know how we do it-we are all on automatic pilot most of the time.
