I fought the lice issue for months! No, you aren't "white trash" or "dirty". Adam C needs to get a life!
The only thing that worked for me was the following: (strange but true)
I vacuumed my daughters head with the hose of the vacuum for about 10 minutes to get the live lice out. Then for 3 days I used the nit comb to remove all the nits and vacuumed her head again. Hey, it worked! I tried the RID, mayonaise, olive oil, and many more claimed remedies, to no avail. Won't hurt to try the vaccum, at least there is no cost involved!

Recipe for Head Lice Treatment
1. Mix half cup mineral oil and half cup vinegar.
2. Cover the hair for 1-4 hrs with a shower cap or plastic bag pulled tight with a clip.
3. Shampoo the hair with regular shampoo.
4. Comb out the lice and nits with a fine-toothed comb. All the nits may not be dead. Each day you must take them off the hair with the nit comb or fingers.
5. This treatment can be repeated as often as needed.
Nits
Cover the hair with lots of mayonnaise (not miracle whip). Cover with bag or shower cap, pulled tight with a clip. Leave on for 3 hrs, wash hair, dry completely with blow dryer and use nit comb to comb out. Eggs should slide right off.
* Try using Tea Tree Oil shampoo and conditioner. There is an ingredient in this that lice don’t like.
Be sure to clean your home really good or it's pointless to do treatments.
* I work with a lot of families, lice is very common. It seems that they are getting resistent to the shampoo's in the stores, not to mention that they are very hard on the hair. Keep in mind that lice like clean hair, it's b.s. that ppl still think that only poor, unkept ppl have lice!

Some people are mislead to believe that lice comes from not keeping clean, but that isn't always the case. My cousin used to get it all the time. She came to my house and I mixed 1/2 bottle of regular suave shampoo and then filled the rest of the bottle with alcohol. Poured it on her hair when it was dry and combed it out with the metal nit comb. DON'T leave it on long, as it could burn the scalp a bit. Make sure to wash all bedding also.

Put mayonnaise on their heads and wrap it in saran wrap leave in overnight, also be sure to clean everything, and I mean everything. Vacuum your couch, put all pillows in the dryer for 20 minutes and make sure to spray your car with RID spray. Be sure to go through each hair and remove all nits, this is a long and tedious process but is necessary.
Just remember you don't have to be a "dirty" person to get lice, it infests dirty or clean people. They actually prefer clean people.
You may want to check with your family physician for a prescription if all else fails.

ok for the person who said.."its called being clean..dont live like white trash"...he's soooooo wrong...did you know that you only get lice when your too clean....if you take a shower like every day or twice a day then your more likely to get lice than people who dont take baths at all.......a good way to get rid of lice is to cut the hair and use a special kind of shampoo......good luck.

Nits do not like vinegar and so i quite often put vinegar on my daughters head over night. Then you need to remove everything from the hair including eggs and wash all bedding. Buy a leave in conditioner and put on their hair daily as if the hair is well conditioned the nits cannot attach to the hair as they just slip off. My daughter rarely gets them now but she used to get them a lot when she washed her every night - now she washes it twice a week and puts leave in conditioner on every day.

It's called bathing, a prerequisite for being a person. If you want to be seen as clean and civilized, don't live like white trash.

oh i hate that problem, store stuff didnt work for us either so i used mineral oil and viniger. the viniger kills them and the mineral helps with the smell and holding it in. we washed her hair in the evening, put the mixture in, i worked it through her hair, put a bag on her head and in the morning we washed it out. so far they havent been back.
