Among Hispanics, Maria is a very popular name. It's not uncommon to have a Grandmother, Mother, and daughter in the same family named Maria. Normally they just use the middle name of the person to clear up confusion. I'm sure this would be the case with other ehtnicities as well. Hope that helps a little.

It's not very common for a mother to name her child the same as her name. That usually only happens with fathers and their children (boys).

If it were the case and that did happen, I'm sure they'd come up with something better than Junior or Senior for a females name. ie Amy Senior or Amy Junior. Probably like Juniorette or Seniorette? lol
