Definitely Melatonin. Take 6-9 mg prior to going to bed in the new time zone and repeat that every night you are there.

As to diet, minimize protein prior to going to bed. It is harder to digest, so it disrupts the sleep. You want complex, easily digestible carbohydrates.

Avoid alcohol before sleep. You may fall asleep fast initially, but dehydration will wake you up later.

Sex is never a bad thing...unless you are cheating on a wife/significant other back home...While what happens in Las Vegas might stay in Las Vegas, a guilty conscience can keep you awake for hours.

I adjust my sleep patterns based on the location to which I am going. I travel to different countries frequently. When you are on the plane and you need to be awake when you get where you are going, sleep. Of course short term flights and fast changes, require you to regulation sleep patterns medically. Not good.

Sleep on the plane and excersize or take a shower right after the flight.

Melatonin will help. Sleep after the flight if you can land at night.
