Its because East Germany formed with West Germany and West Germany had won the World Cups. The East German Football federation ceased and became part of the DFB (West German federation formally) Of course they are allowed. A bit like France having one and only about 3 players are really French.

Germany did not win them as such but their federation did. So if for example The USSR has won the European Championships (1960) but now do not exist but their fedearition Russia does then they can have a star for that win. However Estonia, Ukraine etc broke away so could not have it. If West Germany joined East Germany (in football sense) then they could not have the 3 stars - ok - got it????

Germany (former WEST Germany) have won the cup three times.

1954
1974
1990

Sorry - but Germany (former WEST Germany) is a football nation. Whether you want to see it or not. They wear the 3 stars well-deserved and with pride.
Thanks for listening!

This is another one of those sour grapes questions I think. Does it really matter. What matters is people enjoying football and playing as fair as possible even when highly emotional and tense.
What also matters is being a good loser. Look at Klinsmann yesterday!!! But the three stars aren't half great when yet another ignorant English person mentions World Wars and football in the same sentence.

See answers above. And also, ethnicity doesn't count when playing for a national team. Citizenship does. That's why Alex (a Brazilian players) can play on the Japanese Team.

Maybe because they are the host nation.
