Maybe you shouldn't have invited them. If you think of babies as "things" who "cry the whole time", you won't have much fun, and I'm willing to bet your friends will be sorry they bothered.

Reservations at the hotel down the road!!!
LOL you should have arranged for your friends to stay somewhere more "thing" friendly!
You didn't say how long they were staying but at 6 mo. you should be fine - first of all baby proof anything down low (put away stuff you don't want baby drool and mushy cherrios on)... find out if their baby can crawl or scoot - maybe not, but possibly.
If you have a friend with a portable crib - borrow that so the baby has its own space
Rent a couple of Baby Einstein DVDs (Symphony of Fun, BAby Mozart, ones with music are the best for the younger ones)
Have some new washcloths for the baby to readily have (babies love to suck on wet washcloths) so this way if the baby does cry, you have something out of the ordinaryl
I have these mesh food holders that babies suck food out of... those are a lifesaver, if you can find those (Target) fill it with something like a bananna or pear yummy.. if it's hot in Florida, you can freeze the fruit too.
White noise at night - if the baby doesn't sleep in a new place (you should be able to download something like that) (for example - run the bathroom vent or a fan)
Hope that helps!!!
I agree with whoever said "earplugs" for you! Babies cry, at least you can sleep through it!!!

Most 6 month olds don't do much but sleep. During their waking time they just drool and play...at that age they are usually fascinated by new faces and voices. So you really don't have to "do" anything. Perhaps talk to the baby play peek a boo. It may or may not cry depends on the baby and how it adapts to being out of it's environment. IF the parents take it out and about everywhere then it will be fine. If it's never left the house for a night it may have trouble adjusting. Babies cry, just as sure as babies pooping...it's just how it is.
I agree w/the above poster it does sound like you have already determined it is going to be a miserable time...maybe you need to let the parents know you aren't to exicted about their kid coming. They may change their plans and you won't have to worry about any of it.
Me personally I would take a 6 month old over any age! I love LOVE that age!!!

Good Lord. A baby is not a "thing." Babies do cry. If you don't want to deal with a crying baby, then you shouldn't have them come visit. On the other hand, six month olds like toys that are bright in color and that make noise. You can also play peek-a-boo as someone else suggested. Be optimistic and have fun.

The first thing you need to do is go get some hair gel so that you can attempt to control that crazy blue hairdo. Then, get ready to pull your hair out because your comment suggests you have already decided to be miserable with a baby in the house.
You had better tell your guests how you really feel. If I had a six month old and was going to visit somebody with your attitude, I wouldn't go. What do you want? A guarantee from Mom and Dad that the kid isn't going to cry?

Get earplugs (they're for you). Use your Ipod. Go out for coffee when the baby starts crying. Help the parents out so they can make the baby happy.
Babies don't cry "all the time", they cry for good reasons. Why don't you stop being so self-centered.

I think you should withdraw that invitation right now. Make up an excuse why they cannot come. I don't think anyone should be around a baby with your attitude and if they come, I guarantee you they will pick up on your negative attitude and they won't be your friends anymore. So quit while you're ahead.

Make sure you have teething toys and baby tylenol. And a CD with soft music for bedtime. Otherwise not much you can do but give the baby plenty of attention

Don't be stupid. Babies have to cry because they need to express their needs. When the needs are satisfied they don't have to cry. And if you think in that way about the baby of your friends, I doubt that you really consider them as your friends...

Unless the baby is crawling you don't have to do anything. As far as the crying part...it depends on the baby.
