education for a diploma is based on a wide variety of practical uses that would normally be used in the field for which you are achieving the said diploma.
if you want a diploma in engineering, you wont go after a medical degree.
The coarses that make up a diploma are usually relavent to that feild of expertise.

I went to high school because I promised my Mother that I would be the first in our family to get a diploma. And I was! I went to college several years later when I decided to be a marine biologist. And I never finished. I found I had a Physical disability that would prevent me from diving more than 20 feet. I got involved in construction as a part time position to finance my college. Now 40 years later I am still in construction and I find the subjects I took in school apply daily to my chosen vocation, even though my position does not require a diploma. I am a project manager and an estimator and math (even geometry), basic language skills, history, and social skills have allowed me to advance in this trade, even after I am physically unable to use the hand tools, my mind and the knowledge of the use of the tools allows me to succeed.
With out the knowledge I learned in High School and College when I became physically disabled I would have been on the street!!!

II don't know if you are talking about high school or not. If you are, then, you don't know what you’re talking about. But, it is OK, you are not the first teen to ask that question, and you will not be the last. You will learn some things in school that you will never need. However, if you plan on having a job and supporting yourself, understanding basic math (arithmetic, algebra, geometry), English, basic science and Social Studies (required Government) is needed to survive and not be at the mercy of others.
Examples:
Math is used driving, space planning and maintenance of your home.
English is for communication. Unfortunately, I have a niece whose verbal is atrocious, and I usually have to ask her to repeat what she is saying, or ask my nephew what she is saying. And no, it is not slang, and yes, she is 21.
Basic Science - Chemistry is needed so you might not accidentally blow up your kitchen or bathroom mixing food/chemicals. Biology is needed so you understand a little about germs, food poisoning, predators, etc...
Social Studies (required Government) - Understanding how the government works helps you protect yourself. Ignorance of the law in this country is not considered a viable defense. In other words if you don't know the law and you break it, or someone takes advantage of your ignorance you are still held accountable, there are no do-overs in life.
Most important, even if you go in into the industry you plan on going into now, industries change. They can change by downsizing, introduction to new technology (becoming automated), evolving into something different or disappearing. People had jobs in retail, office buildings, hotels and hospitals working as elevator operators. That seems silly now.

You might not use geometry in the work place but you will use it in daily life.
Also a high school diploma makes a person well rounded and gives the an educational base that way whatever they choose as a career they have a foundation. Why you may not use geometry in your profession you might need algebra. Plus there are things in everyday life that our high school knowledge will come in handy.

I quit school, got a GED, and went to college. I wish I would have stayed in. Having the discipline to do your schoolwork is a great tool to use later in life. The different subjects are a great exercise for your mind to think (most people can't think for themselves). The friends you make and the experience you have is like no other, it will not come around again. Besides most people think the grass is greener on the other side and it never is. If you have a problem with where you are in school, later on in life it will just be something else. So find the best way to do what you are doing right now, have fun and the rest of your life will be the same.

Going to school and learning about different subjects gives you the opportunity to test your endurance and to see what you are truly good in. So you don't think you need Geometry? But why limit yourself with things you only want to know? To keep an open mind is to also be willing to learn about things you may or may not want to. It's called being well rounded.

I'm a writer who went into advertising and never saw the purpose of learning math. I ended up creating budgets for clients who wanted to run the magazine ads I created, so I learned to use percentages and fractions in a hurry.
The point is, you never know when your knowledge will come in handy. Plus, without a diploma, your career is pretty well doomed. Keep pluggin'

you may never use some of the stuff that you learned in high school/college.. but statistically look at the income of a drop out, high school graduate, college graduate, someone with an MBA etc.
education will always be the keys to success.... for some success only comes from hard work... those are a rare breed... and they have to work 5x as hard as the next person.
I have an uncle who i feel like i need a translator to read his E-mails. barely graduated. was sent to the Army (this was in the 70's) as apposed to jail. He has worked his *** off.. he and his
wife won a multistate lottery a few years ago and instead of blowing it he bought the company he worked for. his 100k plus is now worth millions...

You can win or lose a lot on your journey through life, but your education is something that can never be taken away from you. And how old are you? How can you be sure you will always be doing the same job? The bottom line on an eduation is, you will never regret having it, and it is impossible not to use it in your daily life, workplace or socially. One can never have enough knowledge.

Well rounded individuals are necessary in order to weed out those that can not handle the thought processes necessary to be successful in the business world. Ex. to work at McDonalds, a diploma is not necessary to punch buttons or flip burgers., but to teach, or practice law or medicine, all that general knowledge only helps you perform better.
